In both our camps and clinics, Puckstoppers sees it's role as being similar to a Prep School. We believe that long term development is our objective. While others may provide short term quick fixes, we are focused towards a players career development. In that we first strive to lay the proper foundation of fundamentals, and then build the skills that will carry the player through to the upper levels and the absolute limit of their athleticism. Just as a building may prematurely crumble without a solid foundation, so to can an athletic career. All to often, in the rush towards immediate success, players are taught skills or tricks that become the primary basis for their game. Unfortunately, a year or two later that basis for their game is no longer effective against the increased challenges they face as they move up through the levels. Our program is a multi-step process that requires dedication as we "build" a player's game. Individual instruction and small groups are just a portion of the program. Puck shooting machines, off-ice training, and individual goaltender movement drills during team practices are all part of the process. In fact, we actually view the majority of our students in game action ( on video tape or in person.) to evaluate progress and chart the steps towards the "next save". A mite goalie only needs to stop shots that are on the ice. A college netminder has to stop redirected rockets that he can't even see through the screens…. Building a players game requires that they take take the new skills to the game and apply them. Very few have done it overnight. For most, it is a process of trial, error, and trying again. Therefore, we believe that with the fundamentals provided through PuckStoppers a goalie will become the best possible goaltender as they move up each level. |
